Are you ready for some high school football?

If you are, then you’re in luck this weekend.

Business is going to pick up dramatically in Class 5, District 2 football action this fall.

"When I'm in St. Louis and tell people what I do for a living, I get dirty looks," Ballwin native Dan Connolly said.

Parkway West senior Tyler Gabbert will enroll at the University of Missouri and beginning attending school in the winter semester.

This year's Parkway North Vikings now have the best football team in the school's long history.

Apparently not everyone is unlucky on Friday the 13^th.

In a stunning comeback in front of a huge and enthusiastic home crowd that overwhelmed both their stadium's seating capacity and the school's parking facilities, the DeSmet Spartans continued their unbeaten streak and put together a resounding 27-6 victory over the Jefferson City Jays (9-3).

Members of the all male cheerleading squad from DeSmet have a tradition of pulling the school's spartan mascot around in a chariot whenever their football team scores a touchdown.

Hazelwood Central is hardly a stranger to post-season football success in the playoffs and on Friday night, a packed-house at CBC High School got to see that maxim played out in living color on the Cadets synthetic turf.

Playing football in the Suburban South Conference and a Class 5 schedule left the University City Lions with a mediocre record but prepared them for post-season play.

A game-ending drive, capped off with a 37-yard touchdown run from Pat Healey powered the Parkway Central Colts to a 15-6 win over the McCluer Comets in the first round of the state football playoffs Wednesday night (Nov. 4).

Parkway North won the Class 5, District 3 championship with a 36-7 decision over Kirkwood. However, the Vikings lost a big player from their squad to a knee injury.

The high school state playoffs start this week. Here is a look at the schedule for local teams.
